Stove Top Coffee Makers- New and Old

Sorrentina Coffee is the Australian agent for the Bellman stove-top coffee makers. Made of 18/10 Stainless steel and heat resistant Bakelite these machines are the perfect solution for the traveling coffee lover. For those unfamiliar with these machines they do not have a pump- the espresso is made by the water being forced through the grounds via a compressed spring. The design goes back to Gaggia's 1948 lever machine which started the moden age of true espresso and crema.

The advantages to the Lusso design are numerous- the machine is very simple- with less electronics than a pump machine- it is also silent in operation and you can steam milk whilst you pull a shot. In its price range there are many advantages- large 3 litre boiler with manual fill, infinite steam power, and a hot water outlet to boot. The group head is a thermosyphon set up for excellent temperature stability- you can leave the machine on all day and walk up and pull a shot anytime. In addition it will not overheat with multiple shots like a La pavoni lever machine.

The Ponte Vecchio Club has a low water cut-off and a thermal cut off for double safety.

I have been using a Ponte Vecchio machine for the last 10 months and absolutely love it. I find all my shots taste delicious- and if I grind just right - truly superb. I have not had a single issue with the machine.  

The dual lever model is truly wonderful for entertaining- in its price bracket I think it is unchallenged for value and quality. The machine comes with 4 filter baskets (two single and two double) and features new improved steam and water tap handles. Recently I used one of these machines to cater at an event and was able to make 25 coffees over an hour without any problems, and without refilling the boiler.
